Hawaii Business Entity Search

Hawaii’s Business Registration Division runs the new Hawaii Business Express portal, where Search & Buy looks up entities, trade names, trademarks and other records by name. Searching and viewing company information were free in our review. Buying filed documents is separate.

  • Record Type filter (on results)All, Entity, Publicity Rights Name, Trade Name, Trademark, Service Mark or Pending Filing.
  • Status filter (on results)Includes Active, Terminated, Withdrawn, Cancelled, Dissolved, Delinquent, Invalidly revoked, cancelled or dissolved, Merged, Converted, Expired, Inactive and Unknown.

  • Agent SearchBuilds a list of businesses represented by agents. Opening it showed a login screen, so its fields were not seen.

How to search

  1. Open Search & Buy using the button above. The Division began moving to this new system on July 6, 2026.
  2. Choose Begins with or Contains.
  3. Enter the business name and select Search.
  4. Review the Name, Record Type, File Number and Status columns. A name can return several kinds of records, and different records can share a name but have different file numbers and statuses.
  5. To focus on registered entities rather than trade names or marks, choose Entity under Record Type and select Apply Filter(s). You can also narrow by Status or Entity Type.
  6. Select the business name to open its company information.
  7. Review General Info, annual filings, other filings, officers and any associated names or marks.

What you can expect to find

  • The results list shows Name, Record Type, File Number and Status, with pagination and a New Search button.
  • Company information in our sample showed the Entity Name, Business Type, File Number, Status, Purpose, Organized In, Registration Date, Principal Address and Mailing Address. It also showed the agent’s name and address, a Commercial Registered Agent? indicator, a good-standing message and annual filing processing information.
  • The sample also listed Annual Filings (year, date received, status), Other Filings (date, description, remarks), Officers (name, office, date) and associated trade names, trademarks and service marks with certificate numbers and dates. Not every record has every field. A Download company info as PDF control is on the page, and we didn’t use it.
  • Company information is a summary and is different from a purchased filed document or certificate.

Limitations, fees and notices

  • Basic name search and company information were free to view and needed no login. No CAPTCHA appeared in our test, which doesn’t guarantee that for future visits.
  • The Search & Buy help says there is no option to view a document without buying it. A free company summary does not mean filing images are free.
  • Certificates, copies, registrations, reservations and other transactions are paid and separate. Official fee pages list a $5 base fee for a Good Standing Certificate. Different official sources list different copy and certification fees, and we did not check totals in the new portal, so no price is given here.
  • The search itself warns that results are not a definitive determination of name availability, and no match doesn’t reserve or approve a name.
  • We saw no file-number or officer-name search in the public form. Records from before the move to the new portal weren’t checked, and older help pages may still point to the former search.
  • The portal gives the company page a long address with an entity ID. Use the Search & Buy page as your starting link.

Research for this guide used the official Hawaii sites in a web browser. A name search and one corporation record were tested; no document or certificate was purchased.
