Michigan Business Entity Search
Michigan’s Corporations Division, part of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, runs the MiBusiness Registry Portal. It went live on June 23, 2025 and links directly to its Business Entity Search. Searching, viewing a record and viewing the filing list worked without a login or payment in our review.

How to search
- Open the current MiBusiness Registry Business Search using the button above. Don’t follow instructions for the former system.
- Let any automatic security check finish. Our test first showed a human-verification screen, then loaded the search without any action from us.
- Enter at least two alphanumeric characters in Search by name or file number.
- To refine, expand Advanced, choose Contains or Starts With, and narrow by Entity Type, Status or Registration Date.
- Select Search in Advanced, or the search icon on the collapsed form.
- Select the business name button in a result row to open its detail drawer. Compare any Matched Names or Prior Names lines.
- Choose View History & Filings to see filing entries. Assumed Names is a separate action on the same drawer.
What you can expect to find
- The results table has the columns Name, Filing Date, Status, AR Standing, Entity Type, Entity ID#, Agent and AR Due Date. Some names show a Matched Names line. A search for a well-known company name returned 30 results.
- The detail drawer can show Entity Name, Prior Names, Identification #, Jurisdiction, Entity Type, Entity Status, AR Standing, AR Due Date, Initial Filing Date and Last Report with Officers and Directors. It also shows the Resident Agent Name and Registered Office Street Address.
- Entity Status and AR Standing are separate fields. In the corporation we reviewed they read Active and Good.
- For the corporation we reviewed, the drawer also listed officers and directors with addresses, and share and apportionment fields such as Common Shares and Total Authorized Shares. Those fields come from a corporation and may not appear for LLCs.
- Use the label Initial Filing Date as shown rather than assuming it is the original formation date.
- View History & Filings opens a dated list that included annual reports, amendments, assumed-name filings and agent or office changes, including older filings. We didn’t test document images or downloads.
Limitations, fees and notices
- Public search needs no login. The portal says you need to log in to file documents or order certificates and copies, with MiLogin for Business credentials, and credentials from the former system did not transfer. You don’t need an account to search.
- We have not confirmed current certificate, certified-copy, formation or name-reservation fees, so none are listed here. Some official guidance says uncertified copies can be downloaded free and certified copies have fees, but we couldn’t confirm the current workflow.
- The portal showed security verification before loading. It cleared automatically for us, but you may be asked to complete a check.
- The portal showed filings processed through 10/29/2026 and renewals and restorations through 11/01/2026 when we checked on November 4, 2026. That suggests records can lag behind filings.
- Name Availability is a separate Search Filter option. We didn’t test how it works, what it costs or its legal effect, and a normal name search does not reserve or approve a name.
- The Corporations Division does not issue business licenses, according to the official roadmap. A registration record is not a license check.
