Indiana Business Entity Search
Indiana’s INBiz Business Search lets you look up entities registered with the Secretary of State, including corporations, LLCs, nonprofits, limited partnerships, LLPs, business trusts and series entities. In our research, a name search, an LLC record, its history tabs and a filing download all worked without a login or payment.
Official agency: Indiana Secretary of State, Business Services Division (INBiz)

- Open Advanced Search if you want to filter by type, status, name type or address, then select Search. Reset clears the form.
- In the results, select a Business ID link to open the record.
- On the record, use the tabs for Filing History, Name History, Assumed Name History or Certified Copies Request. Use Return to Search to go back.
What you can expect to find
- Results columns are Business ID, Business Name, Name Type, Entity Type, Principal Office Address, Registered Agent Name, Status and Filing Date. The Business ID is the link to the record.
- A Contains search for “Lincoln” returned 1,482 results, shown as “1–10 of 1482.” Items per page can be 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100, with 10 the default. Navigation has Start, Previous, numbered pages, Next and End.
- Results can include legal names, reserved names and other name types, with statuses such as Active, Expired, Admin Dissolved and Voluntarily Dissolved. We saw no explicit sorting control and did not verify column-header sorting.
- The LLC record we opened showed business information (name, Business ID, entity type, status), creation date, inactive date, expiration date, jurisdiction of formation, business entity report due date and years due, principal office address, a registered agent section, and a governing person table with Title, Name and Address.
- The record had Print Entity Details and Return to Search actions, and a help phone line.
- Filing History lists Filing Date Time, Effective Date, Filing Number and Filing Type, with the filing type as a link and the same page-size and paging controls. That LLC had seven entries, including its articles of organization, an administrative dissolution, a reinstatement and several business entity reports.
- Name History and Assumed Name History both showed “No Records Found.” for this record, so we did not see their populated tables.
- Certified Copies Request has a table of filings with checkboxes, dates, filing numbers, filing type links and number of pages, plus a Download Certified Copy button.
Limitations, fees and notices
- Searching the public records is separate from name availability. A search with no matches is not approval to use a name. Name availability is a separate option on the Public Search page that sent us to an Access Indiana login, so we stopped there. Official guidance says availability checking is preliminary and final availability is determined when a filing is processed.
- Official INBiz guidance describes a 120-day name reservation. We did not verify the current reservation fee.
- When we clicked the Articles of Organization link in Filing History, the site showed “Filing document downloaded,” with no login or payment. We did not open the downloaded file, so we can’t describe its contents or quality. We found no stable direct link to a filing image.
- The current INBiz page on opening accounts with certified documents advertises free certified copies of business entity documents. We did not generate a certified copy package, so we can’t describe the result.
- Certificates are separate. The current INBiz page lists a standard Certificate of Existence at $26 online or $30 by paper, a long-form Certificate of Existence at $30 by paper, a Certificate of Fact at $15 and a Due and Diligent Search at $15 by paper. The page is inconsistent about whether the Certificate of Fact is available online or by paper only. We did not test checkout, so totals, processing charges and delivery are unconfirmed. An older 2022 notice shows a different price and is not current.
- Entities that file with the Secretary of State, such as corporations, nonprofits, LLCs, LPs and LLPs, file assumed business names with the Secretary of State. Sole proprietors and general partnerships using another name file with the county recorder, so INBiz is not a complete directory of every sole proprietor, general partnership or county-level DBA.
- Trademarks, notaries and UCC records have separate searches on the Public Search page.
- A passive reCAPTCHA badge was present, but no interactive challenge appeared in our research. That doesn’t show a challenge can’t appear in other sessions.
