Georgia Business Entity Search

The Georgia Secretary of State’s Corporations Division runs eCorp, whose Business Search lets you look up entities by business name, control number, registered agent name or officer name. In our research, basic searches and the record and history views we opened worked without a login or payment.

  • Control NumberA text field for the entity’s control number.
  • Registered Agent NameA text field for the name of a registered agent.
  • Officer NameA text field for the name of an officer.

  • Other controlsBack, Search and Reset. Service of Process Search and Trademark Search appear as separate search areas that this guide does not cover.

How to search

  1. Open the official Georgia Business Search using the button above.
  2. Select Business Name if it is not already selected.
  3. Choose Starts With, Contains or Exact Match.
  4. Enter a full or partial business name, then select Search.
  5. Compare the control number, business type, address, agent and status in the results before choosing a record.
  6. Select the linked Business Name to open its record. Use Filing History or Name History for those additional views.
  7. To search another way, select Control Number, Registered Agent Name or Officer Name, enter the matching value, and open the business name link in the results.

What you can expect to find

  • Results list Business Name, Control Number, Business Type, Principal Office Address, Registered / Designated Agent Name and Status, with numbered pages, Next, Previous and a Go to Page field. A Contains search for “Peachtree” showed 7,082 records, 25 per page across 284 pages.
  • Results can include domestic and foreign entities and name reservation records. Statuses we saw included Active/Compliance, Admin. Dissolved, Withdrawn, Revoked and Expired. Some fields were blank or showed NONE.
  • Identical names can belong to separate records. An Exact Match search for THE COCA-COLA COMPANY returned two records with different control numbers and business types, so check the control number and type.
  • The two records we opened showed business information such as name, control number, type, status, principal office address, a combined Date of Formation / Registration Date, jurisdiction and last annual registration year, plus registered agent name, physical address and county.
  • Which sections and fields appear varied by entity. The corporation we opened listed officers (CEO, Secretary and CFO) and a business purpose. The LLC we opened had no officer section but showed NAICS fields and a filing history of 12 entries, and its Name History showed no records.
  • Filing History lists filing number, filing date and time, effective date and filing type, and the filing types are links.

Limitations, fees and notices

  • This is a public record search, not a name availability check. The form itself says it is not intended to serve as a name-availability search. Name reservation is a separate, optional request: Georgia’s guidance says it lasts 30 days from approval or until the formation filing is submitted, whichever comes first, and lists a $35 fee. Names are reviewed in response to online or mailed requests. A name accepted for filing does not necessarily mean it is available in the marketplace or gives exclusive rights, and the name of an entity that was administratively dissolved within the preceding five years cannot be requested or reserved.
  • Trade names (DBAs or fictitious names) are registered with the county superior court clerk, not the Secretary of State, so this search is not a complete statewide DBA directory.
  • Results include inactive entities and name reservations. Fields can be blank, and one result’s displayed name did not visibly contain the search term. We did not determine why.
  • The Date of Formation / Registration Date field is a single combined label. Do not assume it is the entity’s original formation date in its home jurisdiction.
  • Registered agent and officer fields do not establish who owns an entity.
  • Filing History includes links to filings such as formation, annual registrations and registered office changes. When we clicked one annual registration link, no readable document appeared in the page, so we can’t say whether filing documents can be viewed or downloaded.
  • Certificates and certified copies are separate services, and their prices are not search charges. The official schedule effective September 6, 2025 lists Certificate of Existence and certified copies or miscellaneous documents at $20 online, with other certificates available on paper at listed fees. The schedule has qualifications for page counts and expedited service. We did not place an order, so we can’t confirm checkout totals. An older fee PDF with different figures is still online, so rely on the current schedule.
  • Georgia’s account-based Online Services cover filings and orders for certified copies and certificates of existence. We did not find that the public Business Search requires an account.
  • We saw no login, payment, CAPTCHA or other verification prompt during our research. That describes our session only, and protections could appear under other conditions.
  • The record and history pages we opened did not show a record identifier in their addresses, so we could not confirm a reusable link to a specific record.
  • We did not verify wildcards, punctuation or case handling, input length limits, result caps, how often data is updated, or whether searches cover historical names.

Sources and research notes

This guide is based on a browser research report documenting live searches and two inspected records (one LLC and one corporation) on the official Georgia sites. Basic searches and the inspected record and history views worked without login or payment in that session. No orders or filings were placed, and CAPTCHA or other protections may still appear at other times.
